A COMPLEXION CHANGE is a theater piece with music, produced and directed by Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre, which addresses the changing migration and demographic patterns in Berlin and elsewhere, through the personal stories of several persons who have lived in Berlin for many years and have origins in other countries and cultures.
The actors tell stories, based upon their experiences in different parts of the world, but all with a universal theme.
The death of a son, the gentrification of a neighborhood, the experiences of childhood and being trapped in the claws of a welfare system.
The experiences will be presented through text, music and dance.
These stories have been developed through psychological and acting techniques, which encourage individuals to express their feelings and experiences orally, then on paper and eventually, onstage.
The approach is a means of establishing communication with themselves and an audience, who will recognize the themes as a part of their personal and/or media experiences.
A COMPLEXION CHANGE addresses through theatre and music the inevitability of historical advances to some and the loss of their "comfort zone" to others.

A COMPLEXION CHANGE ist ein Theaterstück mit Musik, produziert und geleitet von Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre, das sich mit den Veränderungen durch Migration und demographischen Wandel in Berlin und an anderen Orten auseinandersetzt.
Die Thematik wird durch die persönlichen Geschichten von Menschen zum Ausdruck gebracht, die seit vielen Jahren in Berlin leben und ihre Wurzeln in anderen Ländern und Kulturen haben.
Die DarstellerInnen präsentieren ihre Erfahrungen, die sie in verschiedenen Teilen der Welt gemacht haben, die aber ein universales Thema ansprechen.
Der Tod eines Sohnes, die Gentrifizierung einer Nachbarschaft, Kindheitserfahrungen und das Gefangensein in den Klauen des Wohlfahrtsystems.
Die Erfahrungen werden durch Text, Musik und Tanz zum Ausdruck gebracht.
Diese Geschichten wurden mit Hilfe von psychologischen und schauspielerischen Techniken entwickelt, die Menschen ermuntern, ihre Gefühle und Erfahrungen erst verbal mitzuteilen, dann schriftlich festzuhalten und schließlich auf einer Bühne zu präsentieren.
Durch diese Herangehensweise entsteht die Kommunikation mit sich selbst und einem Publikum, das die angesprochenen Themen als Teil ihrer persönlichen Erfahrungen erkennt oder als Geschehnisse, die sie in den Medien wahrgenommen haben.
A COMPLEXION CHANGE begegnet durch Theater und Musik der Unvermeidlichkeit von historischen Fortschritten für Einige und den Verlust des "Wohlfühlbereiches" für Andere.

Grownupism!
1Day, When I Grow Up!

So, as usual, I wuz sittin' an' stinkin' 'bout ev'rythin' an' nothin'!
The dragon-teecher has been after me lately, 'cause she sez, "Your spelling leaves a lot to be desired, young man. So I want you to utilize the dictionary much more often and research the words you formulate for your compositions.
I repeat, I want you to utilize the dictionary in addition to your internet queries.
Am I clear about this matter?"
Wow, the dragon is either tryin' to teech or press me into the wall with her slave homewerk stuff an' dragon-teecher pressure!
Man, I'm jes a kid, an' she oppresses me like I wuz a grownup, workin' for sum boss sumplace or sumwhere, for money!
I thought the job pressure came later, on ol' peeple like the dragon teecher or my perents?
Not on kids like me an' my partnurs or even on my sister? I meen, she's a person too!
Why do I have to spel so perfectly?
I'm not writin' a book or nothin', I'm jes goin' to skool an' I thought I wuz supposed to be lernin', not oppressed to spel.
It's bad enuf with all this homewerk stuff, plus I gotta behave myself, be punctual, polite, stay awake in class an' also spel!
I meen, ev'ryone unnerstands wut I'm sayin', so if I kin communikate with my words, then why do I haveta spel so perfect?
Well, anyway, I kin see sum lite at the end of the tunnel or maybe, it's at the end of the month!
'Cause Xmas an' New Year is cummin' up fast an' that alwayz meens holidays an' presents!
An' I luv alla that good stuff!
Of course, all good things cum to an end, but in the meentime, I'm gonna luv, luv, luv the inbetweens!
So, I'm off to bed, 'cause alla this grownup pressure is tirin' me out!

Erwachsensein!
Eines Tages, wenn ich erwachsen werde!

Also, wie üblich war ich am Sitz'n und Stink'n üba alles und nichts!
Die Drachenlehrerin war in letzter Zeit hinter mir her, sie sagt nämlich: "Deine Rechtschreibung lässt vieles zu wünschen übrig, junger Mann. Also möchte ich, dass du öfter das Wörterbuch gebrauchst und die Wörter nachschlägst, mit denen du deine Aufsätze formulierst.
Ich wiederhole, ich möchte, dass du das Wörterbuch benutzt zusätzlich zu deiner Internetnutzung.
Habe ich mich hier klar ausgedrückt?"
Wow, der Drachen vasucht, mir entweder was beizubring'n oder mich gegen die Wand zu drück'n mit ihrem Sklavenhausarbeitszeugs oder Drachenlehrerdruck!
Mann, ich bin nur 'n Kind und sie unterdrückt mich, als ob ich 'n Erwachsener wär, der für irgend 'n Boss an irgend 'nem Ort irgendwo arbeitet, für Geld!
Ich dachte, der Arbeitsdruck käm später, für alte Leute wie die Drachenlehrerin oder meine Eltern?
Nicht für Kinder wie mich oder meine Kumpels oder sogar meine Schwester? Ich mein, sie is' auch 'ne Person!
Warum muss ich so perfekt buchstabbier'n?
Ich schreib doch kein Buch oder nichts, ich geh einfach nur zur Schule und ich dachte, ich sollte was lern' und nicht zum Buchstabbier'n gezwung'n werd'n.
Der ganze Hausaufgabenkram is' schon schlimm genug, dann soll ich mich auch noch benehm', pünktlich sein, höflich, wach bleib'n im Unterricht und noch buchstabbier'n!
Ich mein, jeder vasteht, was ich sag, also, wenn ich mit mein' Wörtern kommunizier'n kann, warum muss ich dann so perfekt buchstabbier'n?
Na ja, so oder so, ich seh ein Licht am Ende des Tunnels oder vielleicht am Ende des Monats!
Weil Weihnachten und Neujahr ganz bald da sind und das bedeutet imma Ferien und Geschenke!
Und ich liebe all diese guten Dinge!
'Türlich, alle guten Sachen hab'n mal 'n Ende, aber in der Zwischenzeit liebe, liebe, liebe ich, was dazwischen is'!
Also. Ich geh' ma' jetz' ins Bett, weil mich diese ganzen Erwachsenenzwänge total ermüd'n!

The exhibition documents the activities of
Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre
in association with
International Artists

The Fountainhead Tanz Theatre was founded by Prof. Donald Muldrow Griffith, Prof. Gayle McKinney Griffith, Lynnda Curry, Ricky Powell and Detlef Bäcker, four American artists and a German colleague, who met in Berlin during 1979 at Theater des Westens and decided to undertake intercultural, interdisciplinary and international productions in dance, theatre, television, workshops, film/video festivals and publications.

This exhibition paints a picture of the activities of various people during their historical contributions to Berlin, elsewhere and hence, the portrait seeks to prevent these undertakings from becoming "footprints in the sand?"

Die Ausstellung dokumentiert die Aktivitäten des
Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre
in Verbindung mit
Internationalen KünstlerInnen

Das Fountainhead® Tanz Theatre wurde von Prof. Donald Muldrow Griffith, Prof. Gayle McKinney Griffith, Lynnda Curry, Ricky Powell und Detlef Bäcker, vier amerikanischen Künstlern und einem deutschen Kollegen, die sich in Berlin 1979 am Theater des Westens trafen, gegründet. Sie entschieden sich, mit der Durchführung von interkulturellen, interdisziplinären und internationalen Produktionen in den Bereichen Tanz, Theater, Fernsehen, Workshops, Film/Video Festivals und Publikationen zu beginnen.

Die Ausstellung zeichnet ein Bild der Aktivitäten verschiedener Menschen bei ihren historischen Beiträgen für Berlin und andere Orte, mit der Intention, diese Unternehmungen davor zu schützen "footprints in the sand?" zu werden.
