After a successful presentation at Smart Project Space in Amsterdam the State of L3 takes over Gallery Sanaa in Utrecht, a space for contemporary African Art.
The State of L3, a Pan African Art collective based in Amsterdam (Netherlands), Dakar (Senegal) and Recife (Brazil).
Sunday the 12th of September, the official opening of the exhibition is part of a bigger event in the city: the opening of the cultural season in Utrecht, an old city in the center of the Netherlands. That day Quinsy Gario, one of the collaborating artists, will present a spoken word performance (poetry) three times: 12h, 14h, 16h.
“Through multimedia exchange projects, videos and an internet archive, we try to understand the connection between migration, visual culture and African heritage. Can we speak of an African collective memory? Can we find new ways to think about African identity, considering that we are dispersed all over the world? How can we express and visualize this identity? How do we relate to our aesthetic history?”
The State of L3 consists of three artists: Antonio Jose Guzman (Amsterdam), Abdulaye Armin Kane (Dakar) and Felipe Peres Calheiros (Recife). As an international collective based in the African Diaspora, The State of L3 approaches the notion of migration from an African perspective. From their intercontinental bases they are creating an ever-expanding network of artists and artworks that investigate African migration and its aesthetics.
The exhibition is on view from the 28th of August until the 29th of September 2010 in the Galerie Sanaa.
