Carol Haggiag

Jewelry Designer

My lifelong passion for the arts has led me to utilization of metals, principally silver, often in conjunction with various semi precious stones. After taking my first jewelry class, I knew I had found what would become my true passion.

I am inspired not only by shape, color, and textures found in nature, but those in my daily environment, all of which are reflected in my various works. The geometry of some buildings, the abstract tapestry of textile and the gentle curves of some objects are what nourish me. I incorporate these patterns into my jewelry designs. Extensive travels have greatly influenced my work as well. I design a variety of jewelry; understated, elegant and wearable.

Often, my ideas come at night or while I meditate. While working, I endeavor to transform the original idea into a work of art as the process develops. Frequently, I get it right the first time. Other times, I must wait as long as several days to conceptualize and process the idea into a piece of jewelry that reflects my intent.

All of my work is original and handmade using sterling, fine silver, Argentium™, brass and semi-precious gemstones.  I mostly work with sheet and wire, however, at times use precious metal clay applying both traditional and contemporary methods to create unusual textured surfaces.  I enjoy the challenge of hand fabrication and feel great satisfaction creating truly unique and timeless pieces. My collection is diverse in nature with pieces that range from casual to formal.

Creative work is a process. My mind is filled with many different ideas, many of which evolve into projects. I keep a notebook of sketches and my macro lens camera available enabling me to retain inspirational subjects. My way of working necessitates that I work on several pieces at a given time.

I design one of a kind original jewelry to wear and display. Classic, ethnic, contemporary and avant-garde design elements are evident in my work. One of my greatest pleasures is that I am often stopped in the street and complimented on my pieces. Hearing such terms as different, raw, cutting edge, bold, audacious and whimsical, really turns me on and makes me happy! This interchange is highly motivational and serves to fuel my desire to further my skills, develop my ideas and to producing new and different works of jewelry.
