Suelin Low Chew Tung

Self taught acrylics and mixed media artist, born in Trinidad 1965, I moved to Grenada in 1989. I am a member of the Grenada Arts Council and work on projects on their behalf. My work explores issues of life and history specific to my immediate island environment. I find that brilliant colour affects a distinctive overtone for the easy digestion of even the darkest subject matter that affects our daily lives, and encourages scrutiny of invisible subjects under the surface of the much-touted Caribbean idyll. I am currently concluding a narrative on one of Grenada’s indigenous carnival characters, the ShortKnee. Inspired by written accounts of Grenada 1650-1899, I have begun studies for a planned visual series of that period.
