About Change

“Carnavalesque - wrestling with a mirror image created by others”

The World Bank Art Program and its partners are honored to announce the names of the artists whose winning entries have been selected to become part of About Change, a series of exhibitions focused on visual arts from Latin America and the Caribbean region.

We extend our congratulations and gratitude to all the artists who participated in the open Call for Entries. The participation from certain countries has been simply overwhelming: the Curatorial Committee was thrilled to review over 10,000 artworks, and it was a very difficult endeavor to try and scale down the selection of entries to 400 artworks - which is about 100 more than we had originally planned to select! Thank you all for this response!

We would like to thank the artists for the patience and understanding they have shown in view of the unexpected delays caused by this lengthy and difficult selection.

To provide an opportunity for the largest number of people to see and appreciate the artworks selected, we have developed a program of rotation and guided tours so that sections of each exhibition will be showcased in various locations at partnering cultural institutions in Washington, D.C. throughout the duration of About Change. Moreover, parts of the series will also travel within the United States and to Europe.

The installations will be frequently rotated and updates on the calendar and locations will be posted periodically on this website, beginning in January 2011.
