Rafael Vargas Bernard

I am interested in examining human behavior through the creation of participative situations and performances which allow people to examine their relationship to their social environment.

I was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. I was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio; Tamarac, Florida; and Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. I currently live in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

My work examines social behavior, consumer culture, art, and the art market.

I concentrate in the creation of situations and performances which compel observers to become active participants of the same.

I utilize traditional and nontraditional methods of art-making from performance, video, audio, sculpture, painting and drawing.
