Adeola

Trinidadian Artist and Researcher

I am investigating ways of integrating painting and movement through video and live art, allowing the real to become less real. Coming from a tradition of Carnival street art that is about allowing the body to become paint(ed) my body becomes not a surface to be marked on but a mark itself. The Trinidad Carnival has a massive influence on my art-making process. As with the Trinidad Blue Devils, my work allows for a transformation through the mask of paint, exploring a new visibility that is about the marking of black lines, making the first mark of visibility in an attempt to re-present self in a new space.
