Lacrimae -
Photo by Frances Gallardo, from the series, Lacrimae (Elvis Fuentes)
I am a PhD student in Art History at Rutgers University. I served as curator at El Museo del Barrio between June 2006 and January 2013, where I organized shows on the Caribbean, the permanent collection and two biennials of contemporary Latino art.
Born in Cuba, I studied Art History at University of Havana, and worked as a curator at The Ludwig Foundation of Cuba. I also lived and worked in Puerto Rico for two and a half years before moving to New York in 2006.
I love the work of Félix González-Torres and Ana Mendieta. I wished I had met them.

Re: Elvis Fuentes
Hi Elvis, It sounds like you are working on very interesting projects that would be quite appealing to Miami audiences. I hope that you are considering working with Miami-based artists, as many art venues here and artists here have strong ties to the Caribbean. As an art critic in Miami, I would be happy to share ideas with you. Best, Elisa Turner
Miami
Hi Elisa,
Many thanks for your comment. Indeed, Miami and Florida in general, as well as Louisiana and the coast of Texas, are part of Caribbean history. From Pensacola to St. Augustine to Tampa to today's Orlando and Miami with Little Haiti and Hialeah, we will be featuring the work of artists from the region and your help will be much appreciated. Actually, I would love to hear your recommendations on subjects and stories to be told. Do you have a bibliography on the subject of Caribbean Florida?
Re: Miami

Dear Elvis,
I have launched the First International Reggae Poster Contest 2012
The objective of the First International Reggae Poster Contest 2012 is to continue to build awareness for Reggae music and to celebrate the global achievements of Reggae and its positive impact on the world. The term Reggae encompasses all the popular Jamaican musical genres; Ska, Rocksteady, Roots Reggae, Dub, Dancehall and the unique Jamaican Sound System. The Poster competition is part of a bigger vision that seek to establish a Reggae Hall of Fame in Kingston, Jamaica.

Carlos Goico
Hello Elvis,
I am in the process of arranging for multiple exhibitions in 2013 of a Dominican artist named Carlos Goico, who died in 2009. There is great interest here in the art community in doing an exhibition that places his works in the context of the great abstract expressionists of North America and Europe. Here is a link on some basic info:

I love the work you are doing at the museum and I hope that we can discuss doing something together on this theme.
Best,
Thomas Donnelly
