Claire Breukel

Contemporary art curator and writer

After graduating from the University of Cape Town, Claire Breukel began her career working for the South African Center for Photography and the Association for Visual Arts, both non-profit organizations. Invited to curate the 2002 Cape Town Month of Photography biennale, she went on to curate the Vision Photography Festival and Brett Kebble Art Awards, 2003 and 2004. Introduced to Miami through the Rubell Family Collection, she took the position of Executive Director at Locust Projects, a renowned alternative non-profit. Whilst in Miami she participated in a number of art-related boards including as Vice Chair of Miami Beach Art in Public Places. Following this she became nomadic in her role as Coordinator of PUMAVision and Curator of PUMA.Creative, focusing on developing the arts specifically within Africa and the Caribbean region. Breukel is an independent curator and arts writer interested in contemporary art that falls outside of conventional modes of exhibition, and often affiliated with “developing” regions. She has written for Eikon, ArtPulse, Wynwood magazine and Arte Aldia, and has curated exhibitions in South Africa, New York, Miami and Vienna, and later this year her exhibition Coca-colonized will open at MARTE Museum in San Salvador.

Hi Jose- thanks for joining the network. It would be wonderful if you could add some more content to your page and once it is representative of your work simply click on the AWARDS tab in the menu and follow the prompts. The application process is really simple. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks
Claire

Pumavision Award

HI Claire,
Last time we spoke I indicated my interest in applying for a grant under the Mobility Award program, to bring in an exhibition and artist as part of a gallery event, which you said I could do. However, the application information seems to suggest it is for me to go to attend an event, rather than me to bring something or someone here. Please clarify. Also, if the Mobility Award Program is not appicable for this, can you suggest a more suitable avenue through Puma Creative. Thanks a bunch!

Hi Carol

Thanks so much for the email. The puma.creative applications have two sections. The first is Mobility Awards which only provides travel support for creative professionals to attend and bring attendees to events. The second-which is applicable here- is Partnerships. This is where we would like to hear from you how we can partner with you. So you would create a profile page for your project and then cut and paste the URL for that project into the Partnership application.
I would also suggest looking at http://creative.puma.com- this shows how we have partnered with artists, events and organizations in the past and may spark some ideas.
Let me know if this all makes sense and if you have any other questions.
Thanks Carol!
Enjoy KOTE
