Installation Artists working with form and dimension.

  • 'Liquid Lithium '2010 Floor Installation.Dimentions Variable. Pine wood, briquettes, rope and stockings. -

THis work is part of three in installations in my recent exhibit at Hardcore Art Contemporary Space in the Wynwood Art District in
Miami, Fl. USA. My work relates to basic energy. I'm influenced by the use of fire as a center point that people use as a fire place, or in an open space in a remote villate to speak to the community 'pobladores', or for cooking in developing socialites in comparison to capitalistic picnics social barbecue for out doors group relaxation. In the last 10 years I have constructed numerous large installation works that share the basic use of wood, briquettes(manufactured by compressing coal dust with by products such as sugar cane grind 'bagazo', sawdust ,rice and wheat skinetc.) lotus roots, paper, cloth, ashes, stockings, metals, electric wire, bricks, matches.....

 Artist Statement

I'm an a cuban born social progressive artist working with materials and space in order to create situations that can be experienced face to face by the viewer.
Today my working process combines objects and materials tied to ideas in a field of interrelated functions. I utilize various mediums to create paintings, works on paper, sculptures and installations. The use of organic coal-briquets and its natural beauty has attracted me. Briquettes, wood, stockings and glass became my cross-bridge. This installations embody the objective to the subjective, ideas, facts, memory, perception and sensation to a 'meta-body' of forms and dimension.
Each materials that I employ although common carries innate qualities as well as the historical meaning society has attached to it. The construction process before an site exhibit varies this allows me primarily to combine my creativity with the site immediate resources in order to achieve the final work and bring about the best artistic installation. The results of such an integration is always determine by the each person impressed visual memory and the individual open will to embrace art.

Liquid Lithium. Installatiom

This works was part of the recent solo show in Miami. I'm very happy when a private gallery takes a chance to present my work as I'm mostly invited by alternative art spaces that are more open and flexible to present an out of the box exhibit but sadly we have but a few of such places in Miami. For this floor Installation I used nine seven by five pine wood logs of different length, briquettes, rope and nylon stockings.
