Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico

The MAPR is a fine art museum that collects Puerto Rican art and presents exhibitions of local and international art.

Mission

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people.

The mission of MAPR is to enrich the lives of its diverse public by providing and making accessible the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of the visual arts in Puerto Rico and the world.

The MAPR facilitates visual art learning experiences for diverse communities through the following elements: the development of a well-documented permanent collection, emblematic of the most significant and representative works of Puerto Rican art from the 16th century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by educational and cultural activities that add to the understanding of the visual arts in human experience, and at the same time, contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, investigation, interpretation, preservation and conservation of the collection and the patrimony of visual artists in Puerto Rico; a dynamic program of exhibitions that contributes to the creation of a curatorial legacy supported by educational programs and activities that foster an understanding of the visual arts; alliances with local, regional and international museums and institutions, to promote the knowledge, understanding and accessibility of world visual arts.

The MAPR, patrimony of the Puerto Rican people, is a private, non-profit institution, incorporated in 1996, and open to the public since 2000.

ARTIST ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (PROA)

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR) has established the Artist Assistance Program (PROA, for its Spanish acronym) with the goal of promoting and bringing recognition to the work of professional Puerto Rican artists who reside in Puerto Rico.

This goal will be achieved through the development of services and creative projects, and through the establishment of alliances with other institutions interested in encouraging the development of our artists.
