I am originally from Negril, Jamaica and currently reside in Miami, Fl. I am eating home-made salsa for breakfast. I am committed to my joy and peace and that of everyone who comes in contact with me. The well being of children is one of my greatest concerns. I've been working on a solo/one-woman show about a Jamaican Dancehall Queen since 1998. Her name is Afreeka, she is my alter-ego. I have traveled the world and I have family that have never left the island of Jamaica. I am paradoxical and contradictory. I am inspired by learning/knowledge/understanding/overstanding....
I aim for my work to be a mirror and
alarm clock. Sometimes we’ll laugh
at what we see, sometimes we’ll
cry… Ultimately I want to inspire and empower. In my work I explore
the inconsistencies between reality,
perception and expectations within
the context of gender issues, racial
identity and current events as well as the pure and simple beauty of the
relationship between movement and
music.
