Studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Art Institute.
Adál Maldonado was baptized as ADÁL by legendary photographer Lisette Model, and was co-founder and co-director of Foto Gallery in Soho, NYC, 1975; an experimental gallery solely devoted to photography and photo-derived works as a fine-arts medium.
As have many other photographers of his generation - most notably Cindy Sherman, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Lucas Samaras - and due to his complex view of double identity, Adál has systematically explored identity issues to their ultimate consequences: from suggestive, “surreal” photographic collages in the early 1970s, to the ironic concreteness of Auto-Portraits series, and, finally, through installation art and video art, the creation of an ethereal, ubiquitous nation/state where the Out of Focus Nuyoricans live.
A great deal of Adál work’s satiric trademark arises from the constant mockery of the possibility of ever achieving an ultimate, definitive picture of one’s self.

Adál:
Excuse my ignorance please but is the above Long Run proposal meant to be a promotional piece for the Long Run? Or is it a request for artists to participate in a project by the name of "The Long run"?
